Location: Fort Macon. We have some rideable S/SW swell this morning (day 6) with surf showing up in the waist range. It’s jumbled up and a bit disorganized at the moment but we should see some improvement as the wind is forecast to go offshore a little later this morning. Watch the flags for the go signal. Fort Macon is one of the gems of the beach: it’s the over-sized catcher’s mitt for the South (and SW) swells on the east end of the beach. In addition, when the large unruly tropical swells hit they get groomed at the Fort. A NE wind is a good offshore wind for this spot making it a desired destination. There’s a huge free parking lot and a concession (in season), bathrooms, trails, picnic areas and there’s always The Fort itself just down the road. A great spot to spend the day and to grab a surf. There are several honey-holes to explore here and you’ll have to have your A-game if you think you’re going to move the Atlantic Beach crew off of their peak (so camp out on a different peak).
