Atlantic Beach Tom Doe Access (Triple S Pier) just a tiny dribble of easterly swell seeping in this morning. The surf is in the flat to less than knee range. The air temps are creeping up to make it a good day for a beach walk. Nestled between the Oceanana and Fort Macon is the former Triple S pier which used to be another staple of the Atlantic beach surf diet. A similar fate to Sportsman’s, the old pier was replaced by ocean front houses. The good news is that there is a public access and a fair amount of parking spots (on the side of the road). Probably one of the better ADA accesses on the beach and a 4 wheel drive access too. A bath house and swings for the kiddies round out this spot. There’s an elongated cove running towards Oceanana and then the beach juts out as it heads towards Fort Macon. This place used to be prime with a good swell and a stiff NE wind. It still looks like it would be worth a visit when some swell hits. Turn at the Sand Dollar motel on Henderson and slip back in time.
