BOC Public Meeting on Special Use Permits

Dear Surfrider Foundation Cape Fear Chapter Supporters, New Hanover County Residents and Business Owners,
Surfrider Foundation Cape Fear Chapter is actively supporting the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s effort to adopt an improved Special Use Permit (SUP) for New Hanover County, and a significant  milestone has been achieved in this campaign! At the most recent New Hanover County (NHC) Board of Commissioners (BOC) meeting, Commissioners voted to schedule a public hearing for Nov. 14 at 4 p.m., at the New Hanover County Courthouse
to review the SUP text amendments. So many of you have contributed over the past few years to get the proposal to this point and we could not have done it without you. Thank you!
We are nearing the finish line and need all hands on deck to organize hundreds to attend this public hearing in support of the text amendments proposed by NHC Planning Staff with Commissioner Rob Zapple’s recommendations—these mirror the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s two year effort in SUP improvements.
Included in this message are links for you to distribute among your friends and network, too. Let’s get this done! Please encourage your friends, local businesses, supporters and volunteers to attend the public hearing on November 14 in show of support. The industrial SUP improvements will promote responsible economic development while protecting our region’s natural assets and quality of life - which attracts businesses and residents to New Hanover County in the first place.
What we need you to do:

  • On Monday, November 14, show up at the New Hanover County Courthouse, no later than 3:45 p.m. to attend the public hearing and wear a BLUE shirt. Volunteers will be outside the courthouse by 3:00 p.m. to pass out buttons, answer questions and welcome you!
  • Please tell us you are coming here.
  • We need to pack the courthouse! Invite your friends through the Facebook eventso they can be reminded and see updates about the meeting.  How to Share Event on FB: Go to the event page on Facebook. Click that you are going. Click “share” and select “choose friends”. Click on all the names you want to share with they are now invited.

Thank you in advance for your support,

Surfrider Foundation Cape Fear Chapter
